Council of Architecture

The Council of Architecture (COA) is an autonomous statutory authority under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, set up under the Architects Act, 1972, enacted by the Parliament of India. The Architects Act provides for registration of Architects, standards of education, recognized qualifications, and standards of practice to be complied with by practicing architects. The Council of Architecture is charged with the responsibility to regulate the education and practice of the profession throughout India, besides maintaining the register of architects.

Council of Architecture, being the competent authority to fix norms and standards for architectural institutions and have the necessary expertise holds the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) at national level to provide a single window system for appearing in aptitude test and to facilitate institutions, students and public at large for admission to First year of 5 year B.Arch Degree Course at all recognized Institutions all over India.

The Council is conducting design Competitions on behalf of various authorities of the Government of India. The Training and Research Centres of COA, internationally recognized as one of the foremost multidisciplinary Institutions in the field of architecture education, research, training and service have been conducting Documentation, Research and Publication initiatives for the architecture fraternity, Training Programs for architect professionals and educators, Awards Programs and undergraduate and post graduate students of architecture along with various Capacity Building Workshops.

Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture

Founded in the year 2004, Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture offers a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture program recognised by the Council of Architecture. Located on a scenic 5-acre patch within the Punjab campus, the school boasts state-of-the-art design studios, multimedia and audio-visual labs, lecture halls, a unique materials museum, and a well-equipped library. The program blends theory and practice, with courses on history, design, and technology, offering in-depth knowledge. Project-based coursework further develops students’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills, guided by experienced faculty and industry collaborations, making CSPA stand out among architecture colleges in Chandigarh and beyond.
